SUPPORT IN ADDICTION RECOVERY in English
Support in addiction recovery aims to help individuals struggling with psychoactive substances or harmful habits regain health and achieve lasting abstinence. This process usually includes psychotherapy, addiction education, counseling, social support, and, in some cases, pharmacotherapy (administered in collaboration with a psychiatrist).
Addiction psychotherapy may involve identifying negative behavior patterns and replacing them with positive, healthy coping strategies; changing thoughts and beliefs that contribute to addiction; working on improving relationships and increasing social support. Psychoeducation focuses on broadening understanding of addictions, their effects on the body, and methods of treatment and prevention. Counseling, in turn, provides emotional support and practical guidance for coping with challenges related to addiction.
Addiction support is intended for individuals who experience difficulties related to the use of substances (such as alcohol, drugs, or medication) or repetitive behaviours (e.g. gambling, internet use, pornography), notice their negative impact on personal or professional life, and wish to better understand their relationship with them.
These sessions may be helpful for people at different stages of reflecting on change – from early doubts, through reducing or stepping away from a particular substance or behaviour, to navigating the challenges that can arise when putting these changes into everyday life.
